Museum of Chelmford
Commercialisation study to identify and evaluate revenue generation options
Chelmsford Museum was undergoing a major transformation to become a more vibrant and engaging cultural hub for the city and its visitors and was actively working to align its vision and values with the area’s recently launched Cultural Strategy, which set out a vision for ’Chelmsford to be celebrated as a culturally ambitious place that connects our innovative heritage of science and engineering with a vibrant future of wellbeing, environment and creativity, transforming our peoples’ lives.’
The Museum was looking for ways to enhance its services, reach new and under-represented audiences, and generate more income. A number of potential commercialisation opportunities were explored within this project, including developing a public and corporate membership scheme, enhancing the events and activity programme, more proactive marketing of venue hire, enhancing the temporary and permanent retail and catering offers and exploring commercial revenue opportunities through digital channels.
Project Objectives:
Like many museums across the country, we needed to adopt a more entrepreneurial mindset. Our museum is a cherished local cultural asset, and we sought external expertise to identify new revenue streams. Finella not only pinpointed excellent commercial opportunities that aligned with our mission, vision and values but also helped us prioritise them, from quick wins to long-term areas for growth.
